Whether going back to school or not, September always seems to be a time of new beginnings and improved habits. So one of my goals this September is to make a fresh start and pack my lunch everyday, I usually just go for the Whole Foods salad bar but not this September! Here's to finding a few ways to makeover my packed lunches, and to motivate myself to stick with it.
Step 1: Get or make an awesome reusable lunch bag or kit. Check out this post for inspiration.
Step 2: Get or make reusable packaging, like reusable BPA-free glass containers and washable bags for fruit, snacks and sandwiches.
Step 3: Plan a weekly menu with as many vegetarian options as possible. The Kitchn recently had a great post on vegan lunch ideas. My personal favorite vegetarian lunch is veggie chili made in a slow cooker from the night before. Vegetarian meals are better for the environment as they take far fewer resources to get to your plate than meat-based meals.
Step 4: Choose organic produce based on the Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 lists.
Step 5: Don't forget to pack an aluminum water bottle.
