It may seem that we're a little obsessed with good places to keep ripening fruit here at AT-SF, and it's true. We are. The obsession goes beyond fruit. It's actually about good places for your room-temperature perishables: garlic, onions, potatoes, open bags of Trader Joe's Wasabi Peas, etc. All those items you can't just stash in the fridge or stuff into your already crowded cabinets, for fear of never seeing them again. Yes, we're obsessed, but with good reason: a ridiculous lack of counter space. Sativa Turner's Schwing Kitchen Caddy comes to the rescue. This design is a nice improvement on a space-saving standby, the hanging wire basket, available at hardware stores and Targets everywhere. If you've gone to the trouble to renovate your kitchen--or even just to paint it--you might not want a cheap wire basket dangling from the ceiling. Umbra's made the "schwing" version, in brushed stainless steel with nicely-curved baskets. We can't see the hanging mechanism and we're hoping it's a little nicer than the standard wire hanger hook you typically see on these things. For $44 it should be. The Schwing Kitchen Caddy is at Umbra.
