- What I Love About My Small Home:
- It's a fully modern renovation in a charming building dating from 1912, on a beautiful, quiet street in the bustling Adams Morgan/Kalorama neighborhood. The bamboo floors reflect light beautifully and are very easy to maintain. My home is a mix of modern and midcentury pieces.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- The completely open floor plan in the living/kitchen area was a huge challenge, so I created "zones" for living and dining and faced the furniture away from the kitchen. I used scale-appropriate furniture and a few dominant art pieces for empty walls. There is no kitchen island, so I placed a table behind the sofa with chairs for a second eating and work area for cooking.
Storage is a big issue, so I had to get creative with storage and part with a lot of material goods! The Ikea Malm 3-drawer dresser doubles as a night table, and a wall of shoe cabinets underneath a large mirror frees up storage in the closet. The bedroom and bathroom walls are grey to open up the space and kept the color palette throughout the entire unit neutral and relaxing, with pops of color here and there. There is also a small desk in the bedroom.

Where is that wooden dresser in the bedroom from? I'm in love!
The one at the foot of the bed, that is.
Its a shoe cabinet from Ikea.
STÄLL Shoe cabinet with 4 comparment
So organized and uncluttered! Very open and airy feeling.
@TIFFANY P: Those are STÄLL shoe cabinets from IKEA. :)
I usually don't like modern lines, but this is beautiful. Clean lines, airy, elegant, and yet still homey and charming. Nice job. :)
Wow! excellent space planning. I love how you used ikea stuff yet your home does not look cheap at all. I'm very impressed.
Nice! Where is the bed from? Ikea as well? If so, how is the quality. My husband is not a fan of Ikea furniture and the quality. Thanks!
This looks like the model apartments at the IKEA store (in a good way!).
Great use of space and I identify with your style perfectly!
Hi everyone! Scott here. Thank you so much for checking out my entry! @Alainnotebook - it is the Parsons Bed from Room & Board. I have had it for only 9 months, but no complaints so far. http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/product/detail.do?productGroup=19564
Cool place!
Wonderful use of your space! I would love to know what the paint brand/color is in the bedroom. It's such a lovely, tranquil color.
Oh, also, what is the paint brand/color in the bathroom?
You've done an amazing job making it look much larger than it is.
Good Luck!
where did you get your tv stand?
The tv stand is also ikea-Torsby sideboard
Great use of space :)
Love the living area and the bathroom! Nice work!
I don't mind this apartment but it looks quite big to me. I feel that living in a one bedroom apartment as a sigle person it's not a big deal and you are not compromising much unless you are a hoarder. I think people living in studio apartments deserve more praise. Having said that as I said I do like this space. I just wanted to make a general comment about the tiny and small categories as they don't look too small to me!
Scott, really great space! Just wondering where is that white bathroom clock from? Thanks!
I'm with Danielle - what is that gorgeous bathroom paint color?!
So stylish – but yet so comfortable looking. Great job!
The bedroom paint color is Ace - Devonshire

The bathroom paint color is Ace - Greek Column

You make it look effortless. Nice and bright and open and clean.
I love this! I also have the IKEA Torsby sideboard as my TV stand and I have the Parsons bed frame from R&B, so of course I love this place. Voted!
Looks GREAT!
This is a very calm looking space.
I love your place
I can't remember where the wall clock is from. I tried googling it to no avail. I bought it at a great home accessories boutique in DC called Tabletop - check it out if you are in the area.
West Elm sells a similar type of clock. http://www.westelm.com/products/ceramic-white-wall-clock-a924/
