Do you have fond memories of your orange plastic pumpkin from childhood Halloweens? We didn't think so. But these reusable Scrappy Owl Treat Bags have a lot of heart, can be used year after year and are super cute.

The bags were created by Ellen of The Long Thread: a blog about handcrafted goods in an age of mass production who made them for her two daughters to use for trick-or-treating. Not only are they reusable, their construction includes lots of small fabric scraps that you might otherwise throw away.
So forget orange, go green this Halloween. Ellen's put together a great tutorial with ample photos here. She generously shares a tutorial or project idea every week as part of her Make it Mondays.
Thanks Ellen!

This is jumping to the front of my "todo" line! Cool idea, thanks for sharing!
love.
Too cute. Love it!
although i think those owl bags are adorable, i luv the memory of my orange plastic pumkin for trick-or-treating. It's what halloween is all about. Jack-o-lanterns, witches, & bats...all remind me of elementary school crafts. Both of my daughters each have their orange plastic pumkins ready for this halloween.
oh yeah, orange plastic pumpkins still give me a sense of awe and excitement. I think the owls might have scared me. You don't think they're a little creepy?
p.s. but i love the idea of a cloth, fall-inspired halloween sack.
