What a fun (and easy!) way to introduce an accent color to a room. Paint just the edge of a door.

As someone who's been enamored of (of all things) the bright red color on just the soles of the shoes Oprah usually wears (we googled and they appear to be Christian Louboutin), this idea spotted in the current issue of LivingEtc appeals to us. Paint just the inside (or outside) edge of a door to add just a slice of accent color to a room and you only see it when the door is open!

Shaw's Original Fir...
I love it!
It works--IF your door is perfectly balanced and doesn't catch the insides of the door frame, else the eye-catching paint will get even more eye-catching scrapes on it. Wouldn't work in my apartment :( Everything is old, made of wood, and has a tendency to swell and shrink in the humidity.
What a cool idea!
Cute teaser!
Subtle and lovely. Great wallpaper too. Anyone know the source?
Oh, I like that! I love brightly-painted doors, but never thought of doing the edges in a different color. (Though rudebega's warning is a good one to remember, too.)
What, you didn't know about Christian Louboutin? Don't you watch What Not to Wear? ;)
Other shoemakers have started to rip off that look, so it's lost its cache. Too bad, was rather cute, now it looks slutty. But that's just my opinion.
As for the door, that's rather original ... neat.
I LOVE it. Although darn, rudebega you are absolutely right. My door would get stuck and scraped. sigh
more posts like this one, please
This is super cute, but i have a related question. My appartment has those mid-80's laminated fake wood printed doors. (complete with painted metal door frames so they are harder to replace)
Is painting them ok? What about painting them a accent color? I am thinking about painting a light blue accent area and would love to pull more color into the hallway.
Thanks for the great idea though!
Just a little ribbon of color. Nice.
What a wonderful use for those small sample bottles of paint you can buy! Cool
I LOVE THIS!!!
