The hustle and bustle of the holidays are coming and you better hurry up and find a sanctuary to run to when the in-laws start to overstay their welcome (just kidding, in-laws!). Reading nooks don't take up very much room and can easily become that secretly special hideaway.
Having just recently moved into a smaller home in Long Beach with much more character and charm than my previous home, I've taken on the challenge of a small semi-awkward nook. I wasn't entirely certain what I should do with the space but have recently decided it would make a great reading nook.
Reading nooks (or any kind of nook) don't have to occupy an entire room — that's why they're called nooks and not rooms. With just a cozy piece of furniture (no matter the size) a few cushions or pillows and some form of lighting — you've got yourself a reading nook. Go with your gut and fill the space with comfortable items that'll help you unwind.

White Enamel Four-P...
The comment above mine is exactly right. The first photo could only be a nook for my six pound Chihuahua.
The first one needs a full length cushion.
I agree with the comments above that the first nook could use some softening. We have one just like it - a great bay window in the guest bedroom of our house that is just calling out to be a reading nook. But until we can outfit it with cushions and pillows, it will remain a nook and lookout perch for our shar pei / pug mix. I'm sure six pound chihuahas would love it too! :-)
Here's a picture of the nook and the room in their current state:

Necessary for a reading nook is good lighting.
For me a reading nook would have to be bright, not overdone and most of all COMFORTABLE or else it would end up sitting dormant. Number 3 and 5 have special appeal.
...none the less, the first space is still cool. could be used as part of a breakfast nook or a bench in a mudroom-type area....
We have a small sunroom that has just enough room for a comfy chair and footstool and a bench to hold reading and a cuppa. It is a wonderful place to while away a few hours.
I'm loving the day-beds of the 3rd and 5th images. Because I do my best reading lying down!
I love 3 and 5. Not sure if 2 is a nook or a small room, but it looks appealing. 1 is more of a bench than a nook, I think.
i love #2 so much ! looks like it's made from a converted closet, maybe ?
