Artist: Tom Ford for Gucci (Spring 2003 collection) Price: $950 from Century 21 (Retail: over $6000) Pitch: This kimono was featured on actor Edward Norton in the Tom Ford coffee-table book (For runway photos, see this link). My husband and I admired Tom Ford's Asian-inspired creations for Gucci and Yves St. Laurent, and were thrilled when we chanced upon this red-and-chartreusey-gold robe in the men's clearance section at Century 21 a couple of years ago. Unless you're Andre Leon Talley, this is not an easily wearable piece, and we knew its beauty would be best appreciated when displayed on our living room wall. My husband simply fashioned a hanger from some string and a slim wooden rod left by a previous tenant, and suspended the kimono from the old gaslight fixture.... The colors of the robe are echoed by the objects beneath: jars of gumballs, Astro Boy figurines from Japan, fluted gold lamp and Memorex Videoball television (both from Target), all displayed on a wavy mid-century bureau from Miami's Design District. Go ahead and mock my dual VCR editing "system" (I'm transferring a bunch of old family videotapes).
