Artwork: Flea Market Letters
The first pic is of some enormous sign letters that I scavenged from the Frankfurt Flea Market. No, "E, gel" doesn't mean something dirty in German, I just really like typeface and fonts and all things letter related.
Purchased/Found: Ordered from Wallpaper houses
The second was really hard to photograph (as it is a narrow hallway), but here goes. I wrote away to a whole bunch of wallpaper companies and did my entire hallway wall in wallpaper samples. I love it, and it cheers me up whenever I come home. There's some Cole & Son in there, some Farrow and Ball, even a cool poster from an Indian grocery store (i chopped it up) along with a mirror, some sentimental stuff, and bird decals.... (More below....)
I am the son of an amazing modern abstract painter and have been blessed to have spent most of my life surrounded by wonderful artists and painters and their work....
So, it was much to my chagrin that Apartment Therapy decided to have this competition now as I have recently moved from NYC to Frankfurt, Germany with only 2 suitcases full of my belongings. As you can imagine, you can't bring a lot of art with you on Lufthansa....
BUT, never one to be discouraged from making a house a home, I set out to create art myself to cover my enormous white walls. I've only been here 3 months, and here's what I got.
