The Seed System literally grew out of a desire to reduce the massive environmental footprint taken up by shipping the fully built lights. A change was in order and the "kitset" was born. In the space that it would have taken to ship one lamp, 40 kitsets can now be shipped instead. "Why fill a truck with one tree, when the cost to the Earth is reduced by packing in boxes of seed?" Why indeed!

David Trubridge is the creative mind behind these lovely lights that are inspired by and echo organic shapes, but with a distinctly modern feel. All the timber is from sustainably managed forests and David designs each piece to use minimal material to maximum effect as not to create unnecessary waste.

The Coral and Floral designs are based on the structure of a geometric polyhedral (similarly inspired as the hyperbolic geometry crocheted coral reefs I blogged about earlier in the week), while the Koura and Hinaki are inspired by shrimp and fishing baskets, respectively.
