The Bluelines blog, which began posting as an online complement to the much missed Blueprint magazine and then continued on after the print publication ceased, said goodbye today. When we clicked over earlier, we saw the following announcement:
With a heavy blog heart, we are saying goodbye today.
Bluelines is shutting down, but will remain here as an archive.
We want every reader to know that we have been thrilled to share with you all of the things we've loved,
things we've obsessed over,
and things that have inspired us in every way.
We hope you will stay in touch with us through our own blogs and sites.
Much love and best wishes to all.
Bluelines was a regular stop on our blog cruise, we'll miss it! Best of luck to the bloggers on their new projects.

Is it possible to find out the source of the amazing bookshelf unit in the picture at the top of this post? Thanks
Ditto -- Want it for landing strip!
Sorry I missed Bluelines during its lifespan -- thanks for the obit so I can check it out in archive.
What was the reason for the magazine AND blog being discontinued?
how about that dining table? anyone know where to find it... or something similar??
magazine publishing is a tough business.
I remembered the bookcase and looked it up to confirm; it was featured in an article in Blueprint which said: "The [home office] design's inspiration was the bookcase, which Joelle [the woman who lived in the apartment] found, abandoned, in a former apartment. She thinks it was originally a music center" (Issue 4, page 92)
Don't know if that helps, but there you go....
I second the inquiry on the dining table ~ any ideas on the source, or a similar white / wood table?

Here is an article about what's going on inside Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.

What happened? Nobody went to it. All non-government supported media must be financed by advertising dollars. Ad budgets chase eyeballs. If nobody went to it, then it cannot stay afloat financially. Blogs take resources like any website and unless the expenditure of those resources pays off in profitability, hard decisions have to be made. All the wonderful, creative ideas came from hardworking individuals on the Martha Stewart team and perhaps their talents are needed on other projects that drive greater success.
Got it. Sometimes you just blindly assume everything "Martha" is successful and can weather a storm. She will undoubtedly come through.
At the time of its folding, the Blueprint editors were saying that Bluelines was meant to reach out to young media consumers on a digital platform (i.e., a really cool blog), but I always found Bluelines to be pretty disappointing - usually there was only one post a day, which is hardly compensation for the magazine it was meant to replace. Considering the kind of media talent out there, I am surprised more effort wasn't spent on making the blog better.
cupofyoshi...I agree with you, it was a poorly maintained blog I wrote to them asking for a product and never heard back from anyone, it was extremely disappointing
such a bummer...blueprint was my fav mag
Surely someone must know something about the dining table? Please, pretty please?
I agree with the above posters: the blog was thouroughly disappointing. Remember when MSL first cancelled Blueprint, they pitched Bluelines as a really fabulous replacement. But the blog rarely had that signature and unique Blueprint look...it was just another mediocre blog.
I think this means Martha & Co should stick to magazines. (Has anyone seen her own blog? Oh lordy.)
Thanks for the note on the bookcase. I'm sad that I won't be able to get one of my own, but glad to know the story.
erin, ccoop and cheryl, here's the info on the table from the bluelines brooklyn home tour:
"Joelle created a dining table from legs found on the street, which she loved for their French modern feel; a friend made the oval top and painted it with several coats of white lacquer."
Emma_Kate, thanks for the info on the table,
