Maxwell has been testing one of these in our NYC office for the past few months, and like us here at Unplggd, he's discovered it's a winner. Strange at first to have the top automatically open for you, it has changed the way we've worked in our own kitchen, making it more convenient to dispose food waste and garbage when our hands are full (we now sometimes hover our hands over other waste receptacles thinking they will open automatically too!). This is a good example of where a little technology makes certain household tasks notably easier and you soon find yourself surprisingly wondering, "How did I live without this?"...

Shaw's Original Fir...
We bought something similar for our parents at Christmas and they refuse to use it. They just like their plain trash can with a shopping bag liner.
I looked at this recently but just can't justify spending more than $100 on a trash can!
To be honest, we were ready not to like this thing ourselves, especially my better half who is prone to eye automated solutions with a pragmatic eye. But now she's all about this automatic opening trashcan, because for anyone who cooks a lot and has to deal with clean up in the kitchen, the utility of it becomes very apparent. I'd like to see a smaller model for those of us with cats/litterboxes too.
