Designer: Akira Yoshimura
Product: Vento Door & Divider
A door that promotes flow. At our 4th Meetup last week, we showcased Akira's beautiful new design that deconstructs the concept of a door. With his recent work in toy design and having won the Rachel Carson Environmental Award while at RISD, his vento door separates space, but allows for air, light and conversation to flow through...
The Vento Door allows itself to become solid when magazines are placed in the slots. A second design, the Vento Room Divider, uses the same design to stand free in a space, creating solid separation. Pictures of this are coming soon.
Akira's design is not in mass production yet, but it is available on a custom basis.

"With the division of space comes the separation of people. A traditional door, while creating privacy, also results in exclusion or isolation. This break in audio and visual communication can seem abrupt.
The VENTO DOOR functions as both door and magazine rack, making the division of space flexible. The placement of magazines into alternating perforated pockets allows people on both sides of the door to control the degree of privacy."
