Name: Seth & Rebecca
Location: Tampa Bay, Florida
We recently purchased this vanilla 1960's house on an island on Tampa Bay. The house didn't have much going for it except the pool, landscaping and some beadboard. My wife is an interior designer for IKEA and I collect and sell 20th Century furniture. We hoped we could make this work.
After painting the house to get some color, we started to decorate. We still have to finish the kitchen — it's Home Depot contractor grade, so we will probably paint it and change the backsplash. Our favorite spot is our bar — El Parrot-Iso, named for the wild parrots that fly around our pool. We spent a lot of time in the Caribbean , so we tried to give it the funky charm of the beach bars we frequented.
Thanks Seth & Rebecca!

Shaw's Original Fir...
LOVE the color of the living room. The rest isn't really my style.
The owners must either be really, really punctual, or have punctuality as a new year's resolution.
good god it's like the decor pantheon got together and formed the interior design voltron. I expected a bit more. So much legginess. Nothing very lush/plush. I need a little sensuality here.

Love the "Gitanes" poster.
sweet--MCM meets tropical! that blue looks really great as does the grey color. recognize the typical MCM suspects (case study, nelson bench) as well as DWR objects but they look different due to the context. rugs add another level of sophistication too.
I love the overall look and feel of this place! Blues are beautiful. Those fuzzy orange throw pillows I don't like so much. I'm sorry, but they kind of have a "dorm decoration from Walmart" kind of vibe. Everything else is really beautiful, so I found those kind of jarring.
I especially love the posters/artwork!
Love it! Perfect mix of MCM and tropical! Love the turquoise wall color and I envy that backyard.
Also, "interior designer for IKEA" -- what a cool job!
I like the wall colors and the posters. I would change out those blinds, however. Go for wooden rolling shades - they'll give you warmth and style.
A man with two clocks never knows what time it is.
House tour, please!
I second the notion re. changing out the blinds to something a little warmer. That said, I absolutely love the place, very fresh and lovely. Looks like a great place to kick back!
i would love to see a full house tour!
"Nothing going for it but the pool and landscaping"--how nice it must be to live outside of NYC.
This isn't my style but I like it--it seems perfect for Florida. Love the giant posters.
I love those planters and that outdoor area looks like it would make for one of the best parties of all time!
What is that blue? Looks very nice.
the plants are nice...
I love everything, but I LOVE the outdoor area. I feel like I need WAY more information, like where you bought every single thing on your patio. I also need more patio photos, like, from every single angle. I'm not kidding--I LOVE it!!!
Absolutely adore your living room color. It is incredibly refreshing. Your outdoor area is charming as well. Beautifully done.
Is that a photo of James Baldwin?
So many beautiul things... and yet something's not quite right. The furniture doesn't seem to be "grounded" in the rooms: it's a collection rather than a home. Perhaps a rearrangement might help? More rugs? A livelier wall colour? More small detailing? Some layering?
....."I would change out those blinds, however. Go for wooden rolling shades - they'll give you warmth and style."
Wooden blinds when they are pulled up block a huge hunk of the sun. when they are closed they let in too much light and offer zero privacy at night when the lights are on.
Venetian blinds allow you to adjust and direct the exact amount of light and offer free solar heat or protection from heat, privacy and can also protect your furniture, while still affording a view outside.
In the first couple of posts I am sensing a bit of east cost, i.e. NYC snob thing going on. You complain about clutter and then this home leaves you saying you need something else. And it's chock a block full of MC pieces. Would you have liked it better if it was in Brooklyn? Shame. I like the home overall and love the posters.
Love this place! It is so refreshing to look at...but also appears to be very comfortable to live in and enjoy. Thanks for sharing!
House tour, PLEASE!
I used to live in Tampa and know how difficult it can be to distinguish a home among the many cookie-cutter homes in the neighborhood. Are you lucky enough to be on Davis Island, BTW? I aspired to live there--great homes, great location, and great real estate. I'd love to see a house tour!
Thanks for all your great feedback...we have alot more work to you,and for any specific questions..my email is sgoldman15@tampabay.rr.cpm
Fellow Tampa resident here! Wondering as well if this house is on Davis Islands.
I adore the giant posters. They're very bold and colorful and make a big impact. Would definitely love to see more of that fabulous patio!
I like it a lot, especially the Pucci-looking sofa!
MORE PLEASE!
i love it! being a floridian (originally from coral gables and now in palm beach) i can appreciate the lightness this offers! love the colors, mix of furniture, and use of posters as art.
i understand what others are saying about more rugs, drapes, sensuality, but what they don't understand is that when you live on an island or frequent the beach often, you want a space that is easy to clean (SAND!). Drapes and rugs accumulate too much dust and sand.
i do agree that the sofa is amazing and could loose the orange pillows!
Nice house, amazing color choices and the minimalistic look is nicely done! actually, personally speaking Seth & Rebecca's taste seems sharp n crisp. Now, going on that line the blinds serve exactly the very purpose they are suppose to! They bring out the contrast with the blue walls and provide the sharpness to the whole decor as is required. There's no arty arty soft touch anywhere. Its clean, crisp n sharp! I totally agree with the orange pillows being gone. They spoil the look of the couch. You could put 3-4 big pillows with solid prints, no multi color printing as the couch is already multi-printed!
It's fresh, it's fun -- it's great for Florida. Love the deck. Love the posters. And, I think the funky orange pillows are a riot. I only lived in Florida for a short while, but I do remember that you do NOT want anything that you can't keep clean or anything that will get moldy. The white blinds are just fine. Ditto not so much on the floor coverings unless you want to go with sisal/seagrass or indoor-outdoor or cotton rag rugs you can rinse off or throw in the wash. Thanks for sharing it with us (especially us city folks who need a break and some sunshine)!
Yes ..the Orange pillows are going, I didn't do a great job of Art directing, didn't think they would publish the pics, we are removing some of the cowhide and replacing with flat weave rugs, we have a cat with claws so we have given up on wool and he doesn't claw the cowhide I will replace the blinds but not sure yet what to do..we like a sparse, clean look and we do get alot of sand since we are on an island across from the bay...TO BEJEWELED..the photo is Mississippi John Hurt photo David Gahr...I am not on Davis Island but that would be nice....How do I do a house tour, there are alot more photos
I love everything about this house. So retro, so modern at the same time, so colorful and so funky. I wouldn't change a thing. It's young and lively and beautiful.
Please send the orange pillows to me!
Lovely! Can't wait to see the rest of it! Please?...
House tour, please.
I never liked modern and now I know why. I never saw it done correctly.
I too want a House Tour on this one. It seems to be perfectly curated, from paints, objets, furniture etc. Omagah, Nebraska, that COUCH! That paint color! I had no problem with the orange pillows or the white blinds. The cowhides didn't bother me but once you mentioned sea grass yes, I probably would prefer that.
Chapeau!

thanks so much for all your comments
I think it's perfect, as is. Please don't change anything! :)
Hi the turquoise colr is Ben Moore Blue Spa 2052-40 and citipearl send me your address to send the pillows to...
i bet the blinds look better in person than in the pics. i would keep them--they are tropical & give a nice feel to the house & complement the shutters. getting rid of the cowhides? awww, i like that they're in this setting because it's unexpected. as honeypeanuts says don't change anything!
The patio looks like a place to sip mojitos and listen to carribbean music. When is the party and are we all invited?
I like the color of the living room - my kitchen is two shades lighter.
While I like cowhides, and have a few myself, they are surprising in the tropics. I guess a bit of texture without a heaviness like a wool rug.
I love this house! I used to have the black and white clock!
