Small spaces are the most fun and the most difficult to decorate. There are so many obstacles to overcome in such a small space, but the outcome is always well worth it. Many studio dwellers think their space is too small for a dining area, but we're here to show you otherwise!
No one really wants to eat on their couch or bed everyday. There are numerous ways to incorporate a dining table into a studio apartment. Here are some to consider:
• Derek & Jennifer's Dashing Digs
• Dave's Tiny Urban Austin Studio
• Stefan's Inspired & Eclectic Studio
• Small Cool 2009: Ekta's Natural Light
• Small Cool 2010: Liz's SoHo Studio
Did you fit a dining area into your studio?

Commercial Flour Sa...
I live in a 400 sq ft studio. I got rid of my desk and set up a standing desk on y dresser, which freed up space for a little cafe table. I probably could fit a bigger table in the apartment, but for now I've got an Ikea Billsta.
Thanks for this post. I live in an oddly shaped 590 sq ft studio and have been agonizing about adding a dining table. This was just the right thing is snap me into thinking about making it work.
Dumb Question:
If you live in a Studio - Why would you need seating for 4 at a table?
Wouldn't 2 suffice?
I'm afraid this is but a distant dream for me - I've only got 350-400 sq ft to play with, and getting rid of my desk is not an option. So far, I've settled on using my coffee table like a traditional Japanese / Korean table... perhaps my next move should be floor cushions!
Thanks for the inspiration. I just signed a lease yesterday for a three room apartment. No hallways and no dining room. It's definitely Make it Work Time!
My shotgun style place is laid out like this: enter into a living room, the next room is my bedroom, and then that leads into the kitchen. Problem being the kitchen is far too small for a table and you have to walk through the bedroom to get to the kitchen.
I was thinking about splitting up the middle room (bedroom) into two parts-- a sleeping quarters and a dining area. Any suggestions on how I go about making that division?
The first, second, and fourth set ups are the ones I like best.
I live in a studio as well, and have found that a dining table with leaves that slide in and out can be a good solution to the limited space issue.
My best ever CL find (well its in a tie with my Murphy Bed) is a vintage Castro convertible table. Large enough as a coffee table, it then pops up and butterflies out to become a significant square dining table that can seat 8. The configuration in my studio is such that the table is right where the foot of the bed comes down, so it acts as a nice anchor. Then I push the bed upright into its cabinet and lift the table and in two minutes, ready for company! With only 420 sf, everything has to have at least a dual purpose, more is better! (I also have an office that folds up to become a beautiful display cabinet...)
I love the media console in the back of the fourth picture! where is it from???
