Jil Cappuccio, Kirsten Colpans and Pearl of Sewn
18 South Broadway, Denver, Colorado
Years in business:
Almost one at SEWN. We have both been running our own businesses for a decade.
Jil, designer of One of a Kind, Limited Lines
, and Kirsten, of Pearl Clothing, set up shop together on South Broadway in one of Denver's most eclectic neighborhoods. With handmade and vintage shop décor and open, welcoming workspaces, Jil and Kirsten's individual style come together to create an inspiring environment to work, create and sell.
Nearly everything in the shop is recycled/restyled or vintage. Jil and Kirsten created an absolutely fabulous floor in Kirsten's workspace by purchasing tiles from the local Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. With no previous experience, the designers (along with guidance from Kirsten's father) laid the floor using upcycled supplies, creating a totally one-of-a-kind floor at a fraction of the cost.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
The style at SEWN is eclectic mix and match. Any pattern or color combination goes great together. It starts with thoughtfully handmade wearable clothing that is one of a kind. Vintage jewelry, boots, handbags and other accessories are a perfect complement to our clothing lines. We also have recycled, vintage, and remade goods for the home.
Chinatown style, vintage ephemera, vintage fabrics, texture, pattern, color, unexpected finds, clothing that is worn in layers.
The Singer Feather Weight sewing machine.
Keeping it all clean. Another big challenge is staying organized and not getting side tracked with starting a new project.
What Friends Say:
I wish I had your job! I want to make things all day!
Again, keeping it all clean and organized.
Our patchwork handmade afghan wall hanging, the polyester quilt covered desk, the fabric covered back door…
Vintage fabrics, lots of vintage suitcases, treasure hunting for that beautiful, magical wonder.
Start with the basics, move from there.
For fabric, Urban Burp
in San Francisco. For miscellaneous goods, the Alameda Flea Market and giant road side garage sales.
Thanks, Kirsten and Jill!
