She writes, I went to an architectural salvage yard in Berkeley and bought a (very) dilapidated old window...I scraped off the paint that was about to fall off and coated the panes of glass with magnetic paint and then chalkboard paint. Quite a pain in the ass since I should have primed the glass first, but I really like the final result. My son is in the beginning phases of solid foods, and we're keeping track of the successful foods and scheduling for him (as well as shopping lists) in the different panes.

now that looks great! very practical. I'm sure potterybarn will soon be selling one for $300.
Now this is a great hack!
I made one of these a few years ago. It was great and quite easy. I did prime first which made the chalkboard paint go on simply. Also the paint store recommended using a sponge brush to make the application as smooth as possible. I am planning on doing a new large one. My idea for that is to knock out the glass and then paint the wall where the glass would have been. This will make the window so much lighter and easier to hang. We'll see how it goes.

That is awesome. I know you can buy something similar to this at IKEA for like $20, but it doesn't have nearly the charm that this does.
This is is really charming. Against the modern cabinets and towel rod, it looks great. A simple week-end project that leaves time for relaxing.
