Scmtngirl posted these photos in our Flickr account. She writes, I have an obsession with Danish modern furniture. But I'm a thrifty kind of gal and refuse to pay top dollar for anything, especially furniture. I found this chair at the Salvation Army on Front Street in Santa Cruz for $18, I think...

...The wood is in near perfect condition, except for one small crack, and the original cushion covers were in good shape but an unappealing (at least to me) shade of dark blue, so I recovered them in a hot pink and orange french wallpaper-inspired fabric to brighten up a dark corner in my living room. yay.
Thanks, scmtngirl!

the flickr guidelines require linking photos hosted on flickr to their flickr pages - which i think is a great idea because then we can easily follow them to the photostream. no link at all here? ok, i'll do it the slow way... :)
akostalas,
Added link.
thanks! she has a zillion photos - i was having a hard time finding it!
ok so bedbugs has been a hot topic on AT recently... so what about the risks of hauling in old furniture from the street? I love the idea of salvaging and restoring a find but do you jsut take your chances and hope the previous owner didnt have bedbugs? these recent posts have got me thinking and being more weary!
As someone who has dealt with a bedbug problem, I read this post with such mixed feelings. I love that chair and would love to be able to do something like that myself, but living with bedbugs was such a nightmare, I just could never take the risk. Most of my apartment is full of amazing pieces that I've either found on the street or bought on craigslist, but no more. I live in NYC, and the bedbug problem here is really fierce...if you live in a city where it isn't so prevalent, consider yourself lucky!!
Thanks for your advice, tumbleweed. its good to know that it jsut isnt worth salvaging and restoring furniture, no matter how fun, from the point of view of someone who has lived with bedbugs before!
