SF Good Questions: How Do I Freshen Up My Bathroom?

AT:SF, Help! I've run out of ideas, and am left hanging with a half-done bathroom refresher-upper. Our master bath has/had brass fixtures, deep pile wool carpeting (yuck!), blue wallpaper that makes the beige/tan shower tiles look pink, cream tiled super-duper long but very low one sink vanity, and a khaki toilet. We want to do a full scale remodel (to fix the vanity, add a tub, adios the closet, and add more windows/light) but that will need to wait in a couple of years...

...In the meantime, what do I do to freshen it up now? I just re-grouted the shower (deferred maintenance) and started to strip wallpaper. I was going to paint, but have no idea what color that can unify the existing tile colors. And the floor!?! Plain plywood subfloor under the carpet, but what to do, knowing that I want to gut the whole thing in 5 years? Thanks in advance for your help!

Gina

Gina,

Our advice: Five years is a long time. Finish stripping the wallpaper. Paint the walls and vanity white. Replace the fixtures. And do something about the floor. (Because who wants to live with carpeting in a bathroom for five years?)

Anyone else?
