Hey, AT:SFers, in case you missed this on AT:NY earlier...Can anyone help?
Hello AT,
Several people were asking about subway tile, but I was wondering if anyone knew where you might be able to purchase this tile. It is from the walls of one of the BART stations in San Francisco. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Shannon

i was just looking at those the other day! i think they're at powell or montgomery station.
i love this tile, but haven't been able to find a source for them. If anyone knows, i can stop saying "i wonder who makes that tile" EVERY TIME I see it.
It's actually Powell *and* Montgomery. I know this because the fact that the stations are basically identical is a continual source of confusion during my morning commute (where am I?). FWIW I think both stations were built in the early 70's so it's possible that the tile's not even available anymore.
BART must have a public relations director -- email him or her and ask about the tile.
They have to do something when it's necessary to replace damaged tile, though I suppose their stock pile of tile might have lasted this long.
I've emailed BART. Will let you know when (or if) we hear back.
thanks leslie!
I spoke to someone from Subway Ceramics at the Traditional Building Show in Chicago in October and the Bart tiles are likely to be coming out soon if not already
Heritage Tile (Subway Ceramics) carries this tile in limited colors at this time. It is a 2 3/4" hex. It comes in domed and flat hex and has 4 & 5 point flat hex trim. Please see subwaytile.com for contact info.
