Angel in the Details: Erika Powell's Kitchen

32409urbangrace1.jpgAs kitchen and bath month winds up this week, we’ve been going through our inspiration folders looking for our favorite rooms to share. A while back Erika Powell posted her design studio’s gorgeous kitchen on her blog, Urban Grace Interiors, and we immediately stashed the pics away under “dream rooms.” Part of what really makes this kitchen work is that each detail tells a unique story, and yet they all come together to create such a harmonious interior. More pics after the jump…

Stainless steel cabinets could easily feel sterile or stark, but Erika has accessorized the room to bring in warmth and softness. The ikat curtains; the old Dr. Nut soda crate; the retro canisters—all of these little touches contrast nicely with the sleek, chic stainless steel.

Much of what you see in the photos, including the cabinets themselves, are salvage finds. The sink set-up came from a roadside flea market, complete with the crazy mad scientist valves you see above. The upper cabinets were salvaged from an old hospital, and Erika made the cabinet hardware from plumbing parts.

Visit Urban Grace Interiors to read about how Erika put the room together, including a helpful little photo essay on how she chose the curtain fabric. Or check out her complete design portfolio here.

Good finish..but a little more color would have added that "wow" effect! But that's just me.. :)

Wow, that's the second set of vintage metal cabinets in two days. I love them! (But I realize they're not for everyone.)

I love this kitchen. LOVE it. But the practical side of me knows that I would spend hours every day wiping fingerprints off everything.

Gorgeous, but it seems a little impractical, mainly the sink area. There's too much sink in that sink!

I like the color combination of the copper with the steel. I like it all---even with the multiple sinks. But then I like the galley on the USS Nimitz too :)
