Crazy Clock Time Numeri

crazy_clock.jpgWe take great pride in the fact that we can still tell time from a glance at an analog clock face, even though they are becoming rare.

What's more, we worry that future generations will lose the ability, along with the memory of the simpler life we all led before answering machines and voice mail.

So we think that if you're going to have an analog clock in your home (and you should if you have kids), you should flaunt it a little.

This one makes a bold graphic statement and will have guests doing double-takes. It's actually a little unsettling until you realize that you can still tell the time from it. Then it's comforting.

Crazy Clock (or Time Numeri) is an Italian design by Dario Serio and is $93 at Unica home.

Wende said: "Ack! I think that clock just triggered some form of time-telling asphasia. Of course, I was the five-year-old who refused to learn to "tell time" because my parents had a digital clock-radio, and that told me the time just fine without all this nonsense about "the big hand" and "the little hand."

And Sarah agreed: "Wende, I have a friend with exactly the same outlook on analog clocks, digital all the way!!!"

ah, there is a difference between "telling time" and figuring out how much time you have left. digital will tell you the time. but the analog will tell you that and visually let you know how much time you have left.

never liked digital clocks or watches. they're too stingy with the info.

This clock annoys me despite the "designy" elements. You should be able to read the time quickly, instead of needing to decipher what number should go where etc. Still beats hanging a large digital clock on the wall.

I like digital clocks.

i think old-style clocks are pretty, but to be perfectly honest i've never been very good at reading them.

i don't like the idea of wall clocks as decor, actually. my time at work is so fiercely managed that it's nice to come home and not have to know what time it is. i use my cell phone as an alarm clock and watch, and the only clock in my home is on the DVD player (which, alas, does not flash zeroes). i've considered getting a classic old analog alarm clock as backup for the cell phone (i've caught myself turning it off in the middle of the night!), but since i don't read them well and am not entirely sure i'd be setting it right, i haven't gone there yet.

i like this clock, but i think a kid would have a hard time telling what time it is.

I would hope he would, tree, as I can barely tell what time it is on that thing.

I like clocks as wall decor, actually, but that thing just makes my eyes cross. At four, it totally would have made me cry.

I'm with david l.

I prefer the visual quality of analog clocks for measuring the passage of time. At work I deal with numbers all day and have to be very specific, so in my own time I prefer clocks without numbers so that it's more of a general idea.

Of course, for an alarm clock digital is the only way to go.
