Before & After: 1950s Home Redesigned by Coop 15

This amazing before and after made us realize how much can be done to an already beautifully designed house. We are big fans of mid-century modern architecture and we love seeing old houses remodel in a way that preserves their original lines and architectural elements. More photos after the jump...

Coop 15, a Seattle based architecture firm, took on a project to slightly modify the floor plan of this Lionel Pries house and to update its fixtures and finishes.

Lionel Price was born in San Francisco and raised in Oakland. He eventually moved to Seattle where he ended up teaching architecture at the University of Washington. He influenced many famous architects of that era including Minoru Yamasaki and A. Quincy Jones. From time to time he took on design projects. This is one of his homes.

The house is built on a hill and its floor plan seems to hug the slope that it rests on. The floor to ceiling windows take advantage of its beautiful location on the lake. The gorgeous courtyard located in the front of the house has the view of the lake thought the glass panel doors that open into the living room. It has a perfect setup for entertaining.

Check out more photos and other inspiring before and afters on Coop 15 website. They did an amazing job revamping this 1950s beauty.

That looks just like the image on the cover of one of my mother's old Betty Crocker cookbooks for party entertaining. Except that the cookbook picture was a nighttime image and there were guests enjoying the balcony. I always thought it was a very chic.

Love it. I can see myself hanging out on the deck with a drink tonight.

I used to work for the Interior Designer on this project; Holly McKinley, out of Seattle. It's exciting to see her projects here in my neck of the woods. Her other designs are great, and the architect does fantastic work as well. Kudos boss-lady.

Looks great, but so many of these posts use such poorly lit photos for the "before" image that the after image looks better regardless of whatever has been done.
