H House by Group 41

The San Francisco architecture that we are used to is very different from the design of the H House by Group 41. The front of this modern home is in perfect balance with its Victorian and Edwardian neighbors. The scale and clean lines allow it to blend with historic buildings of Noe Valley. Joel Karr is the architect and developer behind the H House and the principal of Group 41. More photos after the jump...

The four level home by Group 41 Inc. is set on a narrow hillside property. It is 4,500 square feet and it features 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms with beautiful views of the city and Oakland Hills. We love the architectural elements of the house. One of our favorites is the black stacked slate wall that you can see in detail in the outdoor staircase photograph. It adds texture to otherwise boxy and simple design. The steel entry gate was designed by a local artist - Brian Ford of Metropolis Design. Sustainable materials and practices were utilized in the construction of the H House. We first read about the house on Arch Daily. Visit the website to learn more about it and see more pictures.

I'm skeptical that it's in "perfect balance" with the neighboring properties - some photos to illustrate this would be nice. That said, the interior is too cold and sterile for my taste. I imagine a single person living there with no pets or children and an extreme case of OCD.

I'm totally with dmh: too much cold and sterile for my taste, too :|

Totally in love with the house, the interiors and overall design!!

dmh & mouracs: you have to take into effect that the photos are of a home that has been staged for sale. Once the new lucky owners move in, I'm sure that the home will not feel as sterile and cold as it does to you; although I personally love it just as is!!

I want the bedroom too. I do believe that personal touches would take away the sterile effect. But boy, it is relaxing just looking at it. Open and airy, absolutely love it!

I agree with the first two posts. It is funny how design perspective changes when one has kids. If one plonked my kid in that house, a) would be afraid of the kids being hurt in every edge, b) mortified of the kids damaging the beautiful new furniture. That said, some people choose not to have children and want to live midst beautiful objects and things. Nothing wrong with that.
