49-Mile Scenic Drive Art by Annie Galvin

5-9-08 49mile.jpgAnyone who has driven around San Francisco has probably grown accustomed to seeing the little blue and white signs which read "49-Mile Scenic Drive"...

Started in the 1930s, the 49-Mile Scenic Drive was created to promote tourism throughout the city. The drive begins in the Civic Center area and winds all around town, passing through the Embarcadero, Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, Japantown, Chinatown, Mission-Dolores, etc, etc. The little seagull always puts a smile on our face when we see it, so we were happy to find artist Annie Galvin's version in acrylic on canvas. It might be the perfect gift for some displaced San Francisco native who has a touch of the homesick blues, or someone (ahem) who just loves the design.

Available from 3 Fish Studios in pink and black, as well.

You should credit Rex May, the artist.

(and so should Annie Galvin)

SOMEWHERE there's a place within the city that you can buy the actual sign. I don't remember where. The one out front by my driveway was stolen (again).

I know a place to get one for free. It just takes a lttle elbow grease.

Hi, Thanks for the mention Lily.

Julianna, I do credit Rex May on the back of each piece. I love that his name is so close to Rex Ray, another of my local favorites!

3 Fish studios had so many great things at Capsule last weekend--I'm loving my bear mini-prints! Just wanted to confirm that when I was admiring this piece they absolutely credited the original artist.

Love your work!
