Bug Under Glass' Beetle Dioramas

Created by San Francisco biologist and artist Kevin Clarke, these odd little beetle dioramas are in a world of their own...

A little more on Clarke's background:

"While working the entomology departments of two major museums, I was blown away by the diversity of insects. Yet, I was disappointed that these beautiful insects were in an area of the museum that people don’t ever see...

While in graduate school for conservation biology I learned about a conservation tool used to protect rainforest habitat called butterfly/insect farming. Many governments and conservation organizations are teaching people in rainforest areas how to raise insects for economic purposes versus industries that deplete rainforest, such as slash and burn agricultural farming or logging. Insect farming ensures survival of natural populations by reducing poaching, protecting habitat for other plants and animals, and providing an income to third world populations.

Upon learning that you could acquire butterflies in an ethical way that actually protects important habitat and provides disadvantaged groups with an income, Bug Under Glass was born."

The Bugs Under Glass website is a hoot! The matronly beetle in fuzzy slippers ironing cloths made me laugh out loud.

Is that first one a dung beetle? If it was it would be very funny.

Uh. Mazing! They'd make for a hilariously appropriate gallery show in Harvard's Natural History Museum!

They appear to be out of order - the bug is still painting the picture in #5 that is already hanging on the wall in #3.
