Keep Calm Screen Prints

2-6-keep.jpgIn January we listed in Scavenger a Keep Calm and Carry On poster that Victoria was selling. We actually have one of the posters -- we bought it from England's Barter Books after seeing it in Livingetc.

Yesterday Lucas wrote to us: I'm a student studying in the UK. I noticed the 'Keep Calm And Carry On' posters in an article on your site some time ago. I thought you might be interested to see the handmade silk screen prints I've produced in a series of 3 new colours (peach, pear and plum).

As a bit of background, "Keep calm and carry on" was a message posted around Britain during World War II, in order to prepare the public for invasion. But we think it's a message that's good for anyone, anywhere, any day.

Each two-color screen print is from a numbered edition of 50, hand pulled onto thick fine art paper.

25 each (+ 6 shipping) at Keep-Calm.

Thanks, Lucas!

Love that plum! I too ended up getting one of those from Barter Books (found the perfect frame at Tarjay, too) but if I had known I might have waited for the plum! However, the cost being about 1/3 as much and the supporting of a nifty bookstore do help make me feel better about my purchase. Also my husband saw it and immediately said "That's awesome!" being an Anglophile even more so than myself. He rarely notices when I change things but he loved this poster!

Leslie: How funny... I was going to email you this morning about this! I just purchased one in the "pear" color (actually more of a mint green) last night. I was inspired by your original post, but didn't want the authentic repro in red... I love Lucas' take on this image and am anxiously awaiting delivery.

I also ended up getting one of those from Barter Books.

I really like the repro red.

Anne,

what frame did you get? I tried Ikea but it was either too big or to small.

Aargh, I debated my budget too long and the plum is already sold out.

I'd be interested in the frame, too, Anne.

Er, $50 + $12 for shipping = $62 for something we can buy for much less from a "nifty" (borrowing from Anne) bookstore? Just how much does it cost to reproduce this on silkscreen?

Yea! I scored the last plum one by emailing the artist.

ttt-I understand, and contemplated the purchase, but the red doesn't go with my decor nearly as well as the plum. I see it as a small way to get my hands on something hand produced by an artist, even if I could get a poster print someplace else...

Hi everyone,

The Ikea frame that fits the best is the Ribba. You need to trim down the matte on the top and bottom so that all the type on the poster shows - it's like a 1/2 or so. The Ribba is $25.

Cheers!

Hey all, I found a nice black 18x24 frame at Target that the red version fits in nicely with a little bit of white showing around the edges (like a border, I like it) in their frame aisle, it was one of the bigger ones available, possibly from the Thomas O'Brien collection or whoever the last designer was before Victoria Hagan. But the red version should fit just fine in any 18x24 frame if you don't mind the little border (like I said, I'm a fan) and then you don't have to do any creative trimming of your new poster.

I bought the poster after seeing it in Living Etc., too (in original repro red). Luckily, I was going over to England to see family in a few weeks later. I was able to have it delivered an address in England & then carry it back as Carry-On (in tube packaging). I loved how it looked so much in Living Etc. I had a local frame shop copy it. Wasn't the cheapest route, but I am completely thrilled how it looks in my living room now.

Must say though, I sure do love it plum... !

I just bought the red one from Barter - but this was a total impulse buy and now I have no clue how to make this work in my lavender bedroom. I guess I have some time to figure it out.

I have one from Barter Books in my bedroom and I love it! I had it framed in a matte silver frame and it looks great...

If you go on the website you can get your name added to the mailing list and they will email you when the new colours are released.

Does any have the link for Barter Books. The one from google is no longer active. The one for the gift shop anyway.
