Even those of us who are hopeless when it comes to keeping plants alive won't kill these geraniums from Portland artist Chelsea Heffner. Stick them in a dark corner to brighten things up, and forget to water them all you want. Or, if you do have some healthy houseplants, prop up the paper geraniums among the living, as pictured above. Check out the hanging version, and learn more about Chelsea's project, after the jump...

Chelsea, the artist behind plainMADE design, recently launched FOOL, an online marketplace dedicated to objects that challenge our expectations of art and design, straddling the boundaries between them. Chelsea is interested in the difference between products and art, and so FOOL is intended to explore this distinction.

The concept is interesting, and the product/art itself is also lovely. Read more about FOOL and explore the shop on Chelsea's new site. Each silkscreened geranium plant costs $40 ($50 for the hanging geranium).

FOOL is the name of someone who would pay for one of those stupid things.

Lovely geranium plant that only needs water and deadheading and gives you crazy blooms all season: $2.99
IKEA pot: $4.99
Sad (ok, plain ugly) printout/cutout of geranium with plastic hook:......$50?????

Ouch, not a fan at all. (And why geraniums? They're about the easiest plant in the world to grow... maybe they should have done paper Gardenias.)

Slightly pathetic. It reminds me of those lonely people in t.v. shows who talk to life-size cardboard cutouts.

The moment I saw these I fell in love...then I read all the negative comments. lol.
Gees, people, most of us would buy this design in a framed print, so why not this, which in my opinion happens to be a bunch of fun?
I love things that make me smile, and others smile...especially if it makes fun of my non-existent green thumb. :) And the colors are just so happy.
If the skeptics saw this in my kitchen I'm sure they'd fall in love. :)

Wow....that is a different concept. I agree with Chloe, there are places you can hang these where they would add a smile to the space.

Do they come woth the inevitable dust and dead housefly down the back, or do you have to provide your own?
(Mind you, I'd shell out $50 for an old-school Indy or Vader cutout standee, so yeah....)
