I wanted to make a photo collage, where I could easily change out the photos. So, I bought a bunch of 5x7 clip frames at IKEA intending to hang them together. But, I discovered that it's impossible to get that many photos to hang straight and line up next to each other!...
...The solution: Some frames my dad actually made for me that allows you to slide the photos in and out and change them or move them around whenever you want. It's pretty easy to make. You just need to route out some wood for the pictures to rest on and then you attach a couple vertical slats at the back to hang it up.
These two are hung in my kitchen and have 12 photos each, and I have another one that holds 24, and some that hold larger-sized photos. What I like about them is not only does it give you something to look at when you're working at the island, but the photos are also great conversation starters when people are in the kitchen!

Hi! Thanks Indiasoup! Those are mine, and I see I can't count: They actually have 15 photos each, but they haven't warped yet, and they've been up for a while. The vertical slats at the back are spaced toward the center which I think prevents them from warping.

I usually find collage ideas for displaying lots of snapshots to be very busy- and it always seems very dorm-like, but this is a really good idea. The wood strips give it order and make it seem polished, and I love that it is a do-it-yourself project that seems realtively inexpensive. Thanks for sharing the idea.

I don't have much I'd want to hang in the form of photos...
...but I love the fabrics and wrapping paper and decorative paper.
With your idea, snippets of anything could go in those frames, and be swapped out to change the decor.

Notice they put the inch measurements on the papers at the bottom, so that the image shown in the above two links is for a 5" x 8" piece. So I can get a real good idea of what a 5" x 7" section of paper would look like.
For the Dandelions on the celery green background, $2.75 for a sheet that is 20" x 30" will give you 16 pieces of paper for the 5" x 7" frames.
You could create patchworks. I think it would look really neat. If you decide to try it out, take pictures!

This is very cool (I'm not saying that just because I'm also in Portland). I like that it consolidates the photos so they're in one place, uniformly presented. The conversation jump-starts from this project could be countless.

If you have access to lumber yard that stocks mouldings buy "picture frame". It already has the routed edge on one side. You could use rows of the picture frame easily. It seems to come in 8 foot lengths but should be easy to cut as it is only about an 1 3/8 inches tall and most lumber yards will do cuts for you if you choose not to do it yourself.
