The Gallery: Sarajo Frieden

10-3-08 sf droplets 1.jpgThe work of Sarajo Frieden is inspired by a host of disparate elements, (Japanese ukiyo-e, Hungarian embroidery, and Shaker trance drawings, to name a few) which come together to create a joyful, colorful, folk-art style that we really enjoy.

10-3-08 sf precipitous voyage.jpgWhat's more, her work is on display right now at Rare Device. The show is entitled "Let's Get Lost", a concept the artist explores in much of her work.

10-3-08 sf new landscape.jpg"I may start out with intentions, thoughts, sketches or preconceived ideas about where I want to go," says Frieden, "but at some point, I usually surrender any expectations to follow the roadless map that is creating. It is not a linear journey, and it's easy to get lost. But isn't that the point?"

10-3-08 sf sea cloud.jpgIf you have a chance, we definitely recommend stopping by to check out the show, but if you're not in the area you can also view Frieden's work on her website or at Thumbtack Press, which has a number of her prints available, as well.
