...It helps us get in and out within 7 minutes. Sometimes we can do it in 5 minutes, sometimes we wish we could stay in there forever (our apartment can get very cold!). Our question is this: How much time do you need in the shower? Do you think keeping a timer in or nearby your shower would help you stay focused and cut down on your time?

Less than 10 minutes even with shaving. Unless I feel particularly grubby or lazy, I try to get in and out as quickly as possible because I don't have enough time in the morning as is.

It also helps to turn the water off when you're sudsing up. Obviously if your apt. is very cold that's not going to work too well. I shower with the huz. Don't know if it actually saves much water or not, but it's nice to have someone to scrub your back.
Rambling off... I notice when you use a low-flow showerhead to deliver hot water, it's a lot harder to stay warm in the shower because you're using less water and therefore less heat. I guess having a space heater in the bathroom would help, but I wonder if it's more efficient to heat the water or the air. Ah well, always a tradeoff.

Life is stressful enough without adding another timer to my routine. Some mornings, a couple extra minutes in the shower is the best way to mantain sanity.

i think that having a radio in the bathroom while showering does the trick.. plus it's nice to hear a traffic report before i get on the highway.
without the radio i have no sense of time.
OPB forever.

Turn the water off while soaping up, just as you do when brushing your teeth.
Use a tupperware container or other bowl to hold some water to use while soaping.
USE LESS CONDITIONER on your hair. Just a dab the size of a dime does the trick (my hair is to my shoulders). Rub between your palms, then quickly work it through your hair. The water will help distribute the conditioner while you rinse. You will save a lot of water by not having to rinse a ton of glop from your hair.

I hit the snooze button enough that I don't need a timer or any other incentive to get out of the shower quickly. The idea of late for work burns my internal turbo booster at a fast pace. :)

5 minutes max and that's with turning the water off to soap up and shave my legs. Work from top to bottom and rinse all at once and you'll be out of there in no time!

How much time do I NEED in the shower? Probably 7 minutes or so. How much time do I take? More like 15. As others have noted, I tend to lose track of time once I'm in there, and it's nice and relaxing and warm. Also helps steam away the morning sinus congestion.
If I won the lottery I'd probably spend 30 minutes in the shower each morning - one of those fancy steam showers with a zillion jets and stuff.

I usually spend about 10 minutes or so. Of course, a few of those minutes are just me standing under the hot water trying to wake up. Non-morning showers usually only take about 5 minutes or so.

How about living a little and just indulging? 7 minutes, 8 minutes, 20 minutes----the rest of the day is stressful enough.

Turn the water OFF while soaping up? Use a BOWL to catch water to use while soaping up? Where you are living? Russia?? You're taking all the fun out of life with this 'economizing' stuff...sometimes it really can go too far.
