E-Base Charging Station

(Welcome to Natalie, one of the "techettes" vying for a blogging position at the upcoming AT:Home Tech. Comment away.)

2007_01_18_orange-ebase.jpgRumor has it that we live in a wireless world. Last I checked, I had more wires in my house then ever before. Let me restate that - I have more chargers for my wireless gadgets then ever before. From cell phones and pda's to mp3 players and digital cameras - everything that gives us the freedom to roam has to be tethered down at some point to recharge.

Luckily, Italian designers Con & Con have created the E-Base Charging Station. The E-Base cleverly conceals all your unsightly wires in a stylish 2 ft tall side table - the perfect place to store your collection of wireless devices while they refuel.

Your AC adapters are hidden under the main surface along with the 'power block' (not provided). The individual charging cables can then be routed through circular cut-outs on the main surface and plugged into your devices. It's not clear how many devices can be charged at one time it could be assumed that this would depend on the size of the 'power block'.

At $180, this ikea-esque charging station certainly doesn't come cheap. Also to be noted is that the 'power block' appears to be a generic power strip that you must provide.

The E-Base Charging Station is available in a mod Orange or a Black/Grey combo online at the A+R Store.

Monstrous. Looks like a barbecue. Although this is called a side table, it looks like you can't use it as such and the only function of this large object is for charging. Instead of a way to conserve some precious space now being taken up by the ugly recharging function, this expands the space and further uglifies it.

I like it.

unless you have a pretty mod style house this would stick out like a sore thumb - almost as bad as the cables.

natalie is right though - ikea carried a side stand similar in style to this - it would be great to see if ikea hacker (http://ikeahacker.blogspot.com/) ever posts something similar.

i think it could also be made with a standard side table assuming you're the crafter diy type and could wire the whole thing.

nice work.

'Stylish'?? This comment was probably made by the designer's mother. It looks cheap I think I might prefer all the wires and chargers.

This is a great find Natalie!

Beats the hell out of DWR's weird Multipot thing they were trying to push on everyone for $240. I'd likely opt for the black/grey version and park it near an entry or maybe shoot for a pair and use them at nightstands next to my bed. You could play your PSP/DS before lights out, and use your cell phone's alarm in the morning.

Keep up the good work!

Oh Lord, this is hideous. I have listed an electronic charging station on my blog that serves the same purpose but in a much smaller, less obtrusive way. I agree with Pixie that it does indeed look like a grill. Zoinks.
