Oakland's own Modernseed has just come out with the first three pieces of a house line of modern furnishings for kids, designed by husband and wife team Melissa and Eric Pfeiffer. They are the Chalker table, the Chip chair and the Bro/Sis seat)
The line is called Modernseed Essentials, and a first look at it has us impressed with its whimsy and thoughtfulness. Price points cap at $150, and at least two of the three pieces have legs well beyond your kids' first years.

There are lots of kids products with chalkboard surfaces out there.
But at what age do you trust the kid to not use the chalk on all sorts of surfaces? And how do you make sure chalk pieces don't end up underfoot, ground into hardwood floors or carpets?
Our little girl *loves* chalk, but we only use it outdoors.
I love Modernseed but don't love these new pieces. Like Mama Chilanga said, WHO in their right mind (especially someone with clean, modern taste) wants chalk all over their house? I have black tile floors in the kitchen and I can just imagine what would happen if chalk came into the house. Second, these chairs... pretty boring and expensive ($140!). I think IKEA makes similar ones for a third of the price.
I had a chalk wall in the house and it was great. But the price is too high for this.
Make your own for about $40.
Target sells practically identical stools in their kids section. Then simply prime & paint with chalkboard paint.
