Nursery Show and Tell: Milo Goes Modern

2006_09_25_mobile.jpg

Nursery Show-and-Tell continues with this great mod nursery from Lori.

She writes: I wanted something bright and cheery and didn't want to go with traditional nursery pastels or primary colors. I fell in love with the robin's egg blue color and it set the tone for the rest of our purchases. [more pics and Lori's sources, after the jump]

My parents offered to buy us a nursery furniture at a large baby superstore. We chose the simplest designs could find. We didn't do much other shopping at traditional baby stores. Most of our other purchases were from shops in the Mission, Ikea or online. I've had the bookshelf since college; we just painted it acid green. We framed the classic Descendents album "Milo Goes to College" for decor. The other painting is a Steve Keene quickie purchased in a bar. I think my favorite item is the mobile with its little black sheep.

That's a very cute mobile. I can especially appreciate it since I am my family's "black sheep". Babies are supposed to be drawn to black/white and simple shapes too.
I love the blue and green color scheme, the rocking chair and the polka dot bedding. Great job on creating a fun nursery!

Nice blue color!

Is the rocker comfortable?

Very comfortable. I was a little worried that it would be difficult to get up while holding the baby because it is sort of low, but that turned out not to be a problem. It is deep, though, so I keep the throw pillow pictured on it when I sit to support my back.

perhaps i'm the only one who'll appreciate the descendents album and the fact that your baby is named milo. kudos on startin' baby young.

Lori, I think we have the "feminine" version of your nursery in our apt! Keep meaning to post pics...promise to do so soon. But in a nutshell: same dots, but in orange/pink/red (and ours are curtains, not bedding); orange walls. Ikea rocker (same nursing stool). Simple crib. Flensted mobile (ours was the storks, which I love, but we've since removed it).

Nice job!

We bought that same mobile as a gift for my nephew's bedroom. The baby's room was a little more theme-y (a barnyard theme) so it worked in that context, but I also really love the simplicity of the mobile on its own. And apparently the baby loved staring at it.

Great nursery! One day when I have children I plan to have a similar aesthetic - cheerful but not overtly babyish.

I almost bought that "black shhep" mobile for my son's room, but since I am the black sheep of the family (married out of faith and out of race, oh my!) I didn't want to have to deal with any negative comments.

I love the colors! I like the Ikea rocker, too, though I hate sitting in Ikea upholstery. I swear it's made for Scandinavian giants! I'm way too small, which is weird, because I'm an inch taller than the average American woman...
