DIY Dresser-Turned-Vanity
Jonathan Oxer

0408_vanity01.jpg

This DIY bathroom storage solution is so cool. It reminds us of old wash basins found in bedrooms before there were indoor bathrooms!...

The owner, Jonathan Oxer, outlines the DIY project on his blog. He used an old dresser and an off-the-shelf Kohler basin sink. The pic up top shows the project pre-plumbing so there are no faucets yet, but we're liking the look. What do you think?

Never liked vessel sinks before, and still don't.

Now if he'd rounted out a hole in the top and installed an undermount sink, he'd have my vote.

^^ ditto.
Or maybe if he'd used a more traditionally-style vessel sink.
This one is just too modern for the cabinet and it looks incongruous...IMHO

Great DIY idea.

I agree that it would look better if he installed an undermounted sink for this particular dresser. Either way, I think it also needs a change in hardware.

I like vessel sinks. Don't love this dresser though.

this doesn't work. it just looks like to sink was plopped on the top - there is no connection between the two pieces. and no matter how much varnish/wood protector he puts on that top, it'll be warped big time in no time.

Love the idea but the Queen Anne drawer pulls have got to go- too much of a contrast with the Kohler basin.

I love using furniture in bathrooms and kitchens. I used a radio cabinet with a drop-in sink in my bathroom, and old buffet cabinets as my kitchen cabinets.

However, in this case, I find the furniture piece is unattractive and I despise the vessel sink fad. To me, that looks like a pasta bowl sitting on a kid's bedroom dresser.

Maybe if he had painted the cabinet black (or light gray) it would look more cohesive. Just like this it seems to me like a "during" photo, not an "after".

I don't know, it looks unusual. How functional can something like that be? I like how this Bathroom Vanity looks.
