apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Jimmy Schönning's Bathroom

03.09.09_JimmyBath_01.jpgJust recently we did a post about Jimmy's beautiful apartment. He sent us a few photos of his new bathroom. The choice of black works so well with the very graphic color scheme in the rest of the house. Jimmy is a famous stylist from Sweden and he has a wonderful gift of mixing modern design with warm and soft elements that help to balance the space. In the bathroom he used a brown velvet shower curtain that he made himself, and the beautiful wire candleholder. More photos after the jump.

We fell in love with his wooden shelf in the kitchen that we highlighted in our previous post. He incorporated similar design in his bathroom. The narrow window became a creative solution for a lack of shelving. He used recycled wood which adds character to the modern design. The custom build cabinets hide all the other essentials, including a washer, drier, laundry basket and ironing board. For the sink, he designed countertops that match the walls and the floor. The white ceiling opens up the space and creates beautiful contrast with the black tiles.

You can check out the full story on Jimmy's blog. Unfortunately for us, it is in Swedish.

I also like the narrow window with the rustic-looking wooden shelves. However, a velvet shower curtain? Really?

I'm not fond of every element in this design, but taken as a whole this is a very good bathroom. Clean, simple, efficient, and very masculine. The wooden shelving and the cabinet are especially appealing. The small-sized tile annoys me (I don't like things that small to be so repetitive) and the shower head screams "wasting water", but I'm from the state of constant drought, California. Maybe where Jimmy lives in Sweden they have enough water to not be concerned about it.

Lovely photos! However, while I often like black in a bathroom, in most of the photos the tile looks dark blue and actually I think those photos are the most appealing of the lot. The glowing lamp really makes the "blue" stunning.

Lack of shelving? What is that gigantic business with the sliding doors?
That said I love the look of the shelves in front of the window.
