We really love these sheets - they're a big part of the reason that getting into bed at night is one of our favorite moments of the day. This hasn't always been the case however; we have a particularly deep mattress that caused us to spend several years fighting with fitted sheets trying to make them stay on the bed. Luckily for us, Lands' End's 6-oz. No Iron Solid Supima Flannel Bedding solved not only this problem but are some of the best sheets we've ever used on any mattress.
Just the way flannel should be - immediately warm and soft to the touch, these seem to only get softer with every wash. Right now we're mid-way through our second winter with our set and they're still holding strong - we have yet to have a single pilling problem.
While these sheets aren't particularly cheap, they aren't break-the-bank expensive either. With the way ours have worn so far we can see these lasting years, making them a pretty great bargain in the end.
6-oz. No Iron Solid Supima Flannel Bedding from Lands' End, $69.50-$169.50 for a set. Also available individually.
These are advertised as "no-iron." Do people in the US actually iron their sheets?

I used to iron the part of the flat sheet that you turn over the comforter. It was the only thing I would ever iron, since I hated ironing and I typically only bought clothing that did not require ironing. However, I don't even use a flat sheet anymore because I would always find myself tangled up in it by morning. I just wash my duvet cover now instead. I can't say that it is wrinkle-free, but I really have no interest in ironing my entire duvet cover.

I don't like flannel. How are Lands End cotton sheets?

If sheets were ' the reason to get into bed ' it would be a sad old world. Flannel is for oldies.

flannel sheets may not be sexy to some, hrhprincessfiona, but as someone who is often chilly at night (and not old by any stretch of the imagination) flannel sheets are divinely warm, soft, and toasty.

I like the cuddleliness of flannel as a bottom sheet, and something cooler on top (fine cotton damask). (and no, I am not old)
We've had our Land's End flannels for... 10 or 12 years?... and they are still holding strong.

Some of the flannel sheets out there these days shed, and continue to do so after many washings. Not good.

Thanks for posting this. I've been in the market for flannel sheets for some time now. No sense in waiting 'till I'm 80 to enjoy this comfort!

My husband, pug and I love our flannel sheets. Sure keeps us warm during these chilly nights.
Plus my husband doesn't have to get into bed first and tred to get my side of the bed warm (heh-heh).

Sex-wise or sleep-wise, I prefer flannel (on chilly nights) to satin.
