Modern Quilts: Got Me in Stitches

We love the warmth and color that a hanging quilt brings to a room. With so many beautiful modern quilt designs available now, even those with more minimal tastes can enjoy quilts as wall décor. These simple, affordable throws from Got Me in Stitches are handmade by the two designers at their home in California. Ohdeedoh featured them as a great baby gift, and we think they'd make perfect wall hangings too...

While these are marketed as children's quilts, they could very easily decorate any room. In fact, the "baby quilt" size, at 36" by 45", would be perfect for hanging in a small space or over the bed (for those of us in earthquake-prone locales). Each quilt is also available in a larger "toddler" size, or as a 4' by 5' throw. We could even see using two of these (in the smallest size) to make a floor pillow for a family room.

To see all the available designs from Got Me in Stitches, check out Sarahrae's post on Ohdeedoh, or visit Fawn and Forest. "Baby size" quilts are $90.

Love these!!! I should learn quilting. Looks like so much fun. Would love to create my own designs. There's room for Denyse Schmidt and me?!

Is it just me, or do these have sort of a throwback seventies feel? In a good way, I mean?

In terms of using these as wall hangings, for some reason I could envision these in a small sitting area, children's room or bathroom. I think they'd serve as a really good diving board for ideas -- I could see building an entire space around the feel of one of these.

Though she isn't quite the minimalist, I do enjoy Andreaa Zuill's work is amazing. She paints, she embroiders, sculpts... and her quilts are just phenomenal. She's got a quirk to her quilts.

Never thought I would see the day when modern and quilt were used in the same sentence. I think they are adorable. Tracy @

Very nice- the bird designs have an almost Zen garden feel.

Quilts rock because the fabric is easy to clean up when your cats shed on it. It's much sleeker and cleaner than fleece or wool afghans and throws.

Naturally, I knit and love all sorts of shedding furry cat-attracting linting yarn, so I spend most of my life in various forms of existential agony.

But I still love the looks of these. Especially the birds.

For the DIY'ers in the crowd, check out "stitched in time" on amazon - there's a pattern for a similar, though not exactly the same, quilt towards the back. I think the "modern" in this is all about colour choice and the echoing quilting lines.
