apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Sneak Preview: Nate Berkus for HSN

nberkus_couch.jpg

We can see why Oprah loves Chicago-based decorator Nate Berkus. He's as talented as he is charming. (Did you see his apartment in last month's Elle Decor? And that recent episode of Oprah during which he decorated an entire house for the homeowners in New Orleans?) Now, on top of his many accomplishments, Berkus is launching a new collection with HSN. While some products have already made their way on to the site, most won't be available until Monday, October 13. But we got a peek at some of the goods ahead of time.

Top image: handloom Ikat pillows in amethyst (set of 2), $39.95; python welted pillows in marigold (set of 2), $39.95; studio sofa in pewter velvet, $499.90; woven mohair throw in oatmeal, $79.95; tree table with square top, $229.90; flokati woven area rug, $299.90-599.90.

Wow - This is a great resource...
...amazingly enough, his furniture is reasonably priced and made in the US!

I'm thrilled about that sofa! It's the first comfy plush looking one I've seen that looks like it could fit thru my impossibly tiny (23 inch wide) front door. I wonder if comes in other colors or fabric, I can see that velvet being a dog hair magnet.

EastVillageAmy - The sofa will be available in at least one other fabric: twill, in mushroom and khaki. (It's already up on the HSN site; I'm not sure if more will follow next week.) The velvet also comes in navy and forest.

Pardon my ignorance, but is HSN a good place to shop? I never buy stuff from TV and I only have that association with it.

I love that chair. I wonder what the quality is like.

Oh...I liked the sofa until I noticed the back feet are different than the front. Major pet peeve of mine.

How easy do you think it would be to replace the front legs? I really dislike that style and think it would look much better with something cleaner (even the backlegs would make a better piece).

Why is it that so many of the beautiful pieces I like have those odd spinning top legs?

Nate's 'moving blanket' quilt is kinda hot.

I don't need it, but I like it. HSN - who knew?

Hmmm, that sofa only holds a maximum of 250lbs. Does that say "quality?"

grlwprls - LOL I thought the same thing. Basically you can't put 2 people on it unless they are both under 125 lbs. and that screams "don't even THINK about flopping down on it".

I think I want that quilt. I wish it was charcoal gray though. or olive green. I wonder when it will air on Monday. It'll be fun to watch consumerism is action.

He certainly is a nice piece of eye candy in a slightly creepy way. Linens & Things tried to hype him too. Last time I went in, all his stuff was on clearance. Perhaps he will do better with the curlers and housedress set on HSN. He certainly can make a lot of money there if they embrace him.

I was drawn to the "sofa" too But at 46" wide, it really is more of a double-wide chair. Double-wide... HSN... I made a funny... ~:o)

Like the guy's style -- but these products are hideous! So what if they're made in the US -- ugly is still ugly -- not to mention they're all overpriced too.

Max weight of 250lbs on that sofa? That's more than my husband and I combined, and we're pretty small people.

Yeah...that sofa's not really a heavy-duty "flop on it" piece. It seems like great secondary seating though. How cute would it be at the end of a bed?!

I think calling it a sofa is a real stretch. My guess is it's a small loveseat and it looks about 43" wide.

I like his style but with all the celebrity branding you have to wonder how much say the celeb actually has in the quality...

There's a love seat almost exactly like this in a catalog I have seen lately--either Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel--with turned legs but no wheels, I think, but it is about $1500. Plus shipping, probably. But I bet it holds more than 250 lbs.
