Bedrooms in the Attic

0106_attic8.jpg

The bedroom at Monkey Cottage made us want to live in an attic. So, what did we do but go in search of more lovely attic bedrooms? There are lots of them out there, as many an attic has been converted into a spare room for guests, cozy kids' room, or even a lofty master bedroom. The one pictured up top is from Veronika & Sebastian's London House Tour. Many more after the jump...

I dreamed of living in an attic all through high school. When I moved out of my parents house I then went through a series of attic rentals, including a very romantic one in Paris.

Upsides: Romantic, cool angles, good for my height (5'4")

Downsides: Not always very well insulated. Can be hot as hell in summer and cold as ice in winter. Also, not good for tall people. My over 6' boyfriend was in constant head banging and hunched over misery.

Oh my gosh, I completely agree with Lizzy. It's really cool to look at, not so cool to live in.

Also, a downside: furniture is always a pain to arrange in attic rooms.

I currently live in an attic bedroom in potrero hill. The view from my bed through is pretty fantastic. Downtown, bay bridge and the east bay. It is hard to heat in the winter and it gets pretty hot in the summer, but it still feels cozy. I decorated it to make it feel a like a tree house and put down a sheep skin to help in the winter.

I currently live in an upstairs of a house and the walls are only slanted on one side. I don't know what I'd do without this though, because I would have no place to put my bookshelves, armoire, or headboard. But, it was still really cute and charming. It works better if only your bedroom is in an attic and not the rest of your apartment.

My bedroom is in an attic w/ just two slanted walls. Once we tucked the bed under the slanted bed most of the head banging stopped (I'm 5'10" and my bf is 6'2").
The views from bed are great through my roof window. But bad weather just a few feet from your face can cause nightmares.
At first I thought it was awesome that the closets were tucked in the corners where the dormers are but now I dread hunching down under the beams to get into my closets... I still contend that it would be perfect for little kids.

This is a wonderful ideas for children - they are short and they would find it like living in a treehouse or something. Would be tricky for teenagers and adult though - always wanted to take an attic and make it a guest room. Seems like it would make it very cozy and since guests don't need a ton of closet space, it would seem very ideal.

I would adore to have an extra little room in my attic. Alas that it is merely the space between the ceiling and the roof. But if I set my sights on a little area that is JUST for lying down and sleeping, I think I might swing it.

Oh these are amazing. I put a bedroom up in my attic (t'was a weekend project) and I love it, the cross breeze, the light flooding in, everything. But these are way better than mine.
