The common-sense theory around color in the bedroom is that subtle shades help create a sense of calm and relaxation that is conducive to sleep. We're sure there's a lot of truth to that, but if you lovelovelove bright, saturated hues, adding color to your bedroom might be a design risk you're willing to take...
Sometimes in order to be true to your own style you've got to bend (or heck, completely break in two) the interior design "rules" that you may have heard before. If going for brightly colored walls, try creating a calm bedroom by appealing to your other senses, such as touch (luxuriously soft bedding, for instance), smell (perhaps lavender sachets), or sound (white noise machines, the burble of a vaporizer). Of course heavy, lined curtains don't hurt either. Tell us what you think - would you choose a bright color for the bedroom?

We DO have a bright color in the bedroom. The walls are a sort of goldenrod color and the curtains are dark red. The bedspread, though, is a chocolate brown, which helps to tone things down a bit.

mmmmmmmmmm I LOVE purple and aqua colors together. They look so great in that first pic. I would def style my bedroom this way if I was allowed to paint the walls in my apt. :\
That is a neat little night stand in the green bedroom too.
Great post. ^_^

I don't mind the jewel-toned blues and purples in the first photo - but the yellow/chartreuse/acid-green in the second is just too vibrant for a room that should evoke a restful, calm mood.
(And yellow makes me look sallow - Not a pretty thing when getting intimate...)

Anyone know where the pedestal/nightstand in the chartreuse room is from?

@MilenaB
Get some taffeta yardage and make your own.

It is the wall color and curtain color being the same that keeps the room from feeling like a big choppy color mess. It is more of a rainbow blend effect.

I'm renting, so my room is all cream. It's actually a nice one, for a change! But my furniture is all strong colours - but in blue and green shades, so it's still actually quite restful.

The bedside lamp in the turquoise room is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time.

Yellow is my favourite colour, but I'm not a fan of the charteuse room. Oh well.
Having said that, I LOVE colours! Especially bright oranges and yellows - it makes me happy to look at them, and isn't that what a bedroom should do? I ground it with black furniture and let the walls and soft furnishings bring the colour in - I'm very fond of it.

Once the lights go out, you can't see the colors anyway! So why not have a lot of fun with your decorating scheme?

you're going to need a big room to cater for all that colour, mine would be swamped!
