Hotel Frank (formerly the Maxwell) won't be open until March, but several elements in the room shown above have already piqued our interest. For example, the pole-mounted television, which we believe swivels to let one watch from bed or the couch. It's a nice space-saving touch that might (what say you?) work well in a studio apartment, if you can get past the slight "stripper pole" vibe. We're liking the dash of teal in the headboard enlivening the black and white room, as well as the lovely light fixtures hanging from either side of the bed. What do you think? Is this a room you'd want to call home?

That room is trying too hard. But then I am so not the targeted customer of this hotel (their Web site reads, "subtlety is so last season..."). Good luck to them, but I think that this decor is going to be tres dated tres quick.
And I noted that this is located itn the Tenderloin..

Ugh, couldn't agree more with Forestdweller. Oversized houndstooth on the rug?? That's *already* dated...

With the noted exception of the stripper-pole and the teal vinyl headboard with the strip of mirror above - I like the individual elements in the rooms...
...but taken all together, it's a bit much for me.

I like it a lot. Especially the matching dog. I don't think the gold frame looks that good though.

Is this a room I'd like to call home? - maybe
Is this a room I'd like to spend a few nights in? - absolutely!
Thank you for posting this -- your timing almost scary -- my mom just gave me my grandma's velvet headboard. It's exactly the same color as the one above. I'm soooo over the turquoise/choc brown combo, so I thought I'd pair it with crisp black and white.
Great inspiration! Love the thin black trim at the ceiling line.

That TV looks like a disaster waiting to happen. I'm all about practicality, but who wants that beastly thing in the middle of the room? I would run into those sharp edges all the time.

You could not pay me enough to stay anywhere in the Tenderloin (I'm a native San Franciscan; I know the territory). Agree with Forestdweller on the decor; I think it looks dated already.

I love it! Staying somewhere more dramatic and themey is what hotels are for. I would never have stark black and white houndstooth wall to wall carpeting (especially with puppy paws anywhere in the vacinity), but I love the idea of staying somewhere so bold.

actually "native san franciscan," its not in the tenderloin, its on geary between powell and mason, near all the theaters and about 700 other tourist hotels.

ooooo... i like that chandelier/pendant light.

Close to the Tenderloin, closer to Union Square, both can be upsetting in their own ways. More importantly, did you look at the rates?! Cheap AND dog friendly- my usual hotel may have competition, despite the fact that the room will make me feel like I am still in Hollywood.

I want the light above the bed.

Geez--what a bunch of lightweights. I wouldn't hesitate to put family in a hotel in that area.

Hm. Did Urban Outfitters provide all of the furnishings?

I like it. It's fun and different and glam. So people like boring stuff though. That's ok. They can eat yogurt.

I would never replicate this in my own space, however, I would be more than thrilled to stay here for a few nights! How fun! I like their unique TV solution. A lot better than the old armoire with those "fantastic" slide back and around doors.. gah. What makes this TV solution even cooler is that you KNOW there is a piece of art on the reverse side, making it great to view from either side. I would probably have for for a white pole instead, though... the stripper pole connotation is just too easy here.

If you think this area is the TL, then I guess the St. Francis Hotel is in the TL. Sheesh. It's a block from Union Square!

This is funny, I work in the building next to this hotel and have been looking out our windows and into the rooms to see what they are doing! Thanks for the sneak peek pic! I think what they are doing is fun and commend them for being bold. Certainly you can pick things apart, as any good designer will, but it is better than a safe-blah traditional re-creation. Also, just have to clarify, this is near the tenderloin, but not in it! The location is fine. Macy's, Sac's Fifth Ave, all the high end shopping is within a block.
