Inspiration: A Window at the Head of the Bed

0113_window.jpg

There is a window at the head of our bed, so we're always on the lookout for inspiration like this. We just use our extra deep windowsill as a bedside table and call it a day. But we love the composed look of this particular window-bed combo...

The sheer curtains blend with the walls but allow a soft light to stream in. The headboard, in the same color as the wall and curtains, provides support and is centered right on the window.

We also just have to point out the Raindrop Mirror on the sidewall - we were just looking at those last week! The gold toned metal in this one looks fantastic in this bedroom. Photo: Erik Johnson

i like the look but all i can think about is summer. living in australia i often move furniture around for summer - the lounge, beds and chairs so that the person in them will get whatever breeze any pass through.

i suppose if you have a room like that you probably have air conditioning though and more windows out of shot.

We are struggling with having a bed in front of our window as well. There really aren't any other options because of the way the entrance way is laid out. There is a window on 2 different walls and they are at a really stupid height...very frustrating. So I love seeing similar situations!

I do this as well. It really is the only way our bedroom could be done. IT was a bonus, considering we couldn't decide on a headboard anyway. We like it!

The only drawback with this setup is that you lose 1/3 of your window because of the headboard.

I have rarely seen this done well. It seems like you always lose part of the window or functionality of the window or it just plain looks weird. I lived in a condo for a few months where we put our bed in front of the window. It wasn't optimal, but because we were there such a short time, we didn't want to rearrange or get new furniture. The thing I noticed most was the loss of privacy and how much I could hear our neighbors and how much they could hear us during "nighttime activities".

Feng shui design advises the bed not be directly under a window - The chi entering through the window will disrupt sleep. (But having children distrupts sleep, too, so who knows??)
