Crate & Barrel's Elan Line

It's not new, but we just noticed the handsome Elan line in C&B's catalogue and we're impressed.

The proportions of Crate & Barrel's furniture are often a little grand for urban apartments and Elan is no exception. But these low-slung designs still manage to feel lighter and less bulky. The combination of pale oak and clean, shutter-like horizontals give them a tropical, plantation vibe and make them more workable for small spaces.

Prices range from $299 for a mirror to $1,699.00 for an armoire and are available here.

They are very nice in real life too. I tried opening and closing the doors and drawers of this piece in my local Crate & Barrel. Very smooth movements. I especially like the hardware on the doors of the wardrobe, there were no protruding knobs, just a small silver horizontal that works very much like a car lock; press one side and the other side lifts so that you can pull with it.

This is rare for me, because I'm pretty flexible about furniture styles and like C&B, but my immediate reaction when I saw it was that it looked like a shipping pallet. It's the horizontal lines, coupled with the space between the slats, and the color. Perhaps if they were stained or painted I might have a different take on them... ?

I love this - it would fit so good with my bed. But alas, no C&B in Greece...

I really like the Elan bed, but I am not crazy about the slatted dresser. Has anyone seen accessories that would match this suit?
