Dodu Bed

2006_10_05_bludot.jpg
We once accompanied a color-shy friend to Ikea and talked her into buying a bright red sofa. We were a little nervous, but when it arrived in her otherwise colorless living room it was insta-style. Inspired, she went on to purchase some punchy Adler pillows and soon after, a magenta raincoat to cheer herself up on rainy days. And one day while wearing that raincoat, she met the man she would eventually marry.

But we digress.

Unlike red walls, a red couch is a real commitment. And from the looks of our color survey, bold commitments like this are rare even among our design-loving readers. So we draw your attention to Blue Dot's new woven felt Dodu platform bed in aqua blue, which we slinked back in September, because it's color month here at AT. Yes, you can have this bed in a safely lovely charcoal or wheat, but it has been our experience (and our friend's) that the gods smile upon bold choices.

The Dodu bed is available at Design Public and Velocity for $1,099 - $1,499.

The lead in story and squiggles comments remind me: I have a long time friend who fell into the habit of decorating like an old lady. Dull, cluttered, etc. Miraculously, she listened to me while we were shopping for her new sofa. She bought a RED suede sofa simply because it made her smile. So it didn't fit with anything she had. We ended up picking out additional pieces at a later date, one in black leather, and some glass tables. She now has a completely new array of furniture, I helped her paint, changed the curtains and we began discarding things. The doldrums are gone and she loves being at home.

Now she is taking better care of her hair and is working out more. Color is a mindset. It's sort of like a romance...you start with a little of this and a little of that and boom! You're in love.

I have a red sofa and I love it. Since I am a renter, I can't paint or anything, but this adds a lot of color to my living room.

the two color infusion stories, delightful...
set + ward-robe dep't in real life, magic!

brights + neutrals mixed together, the essence of sophistication to me..or all subtle monochromatics w/ at least some rich deep color in the mix...yes please...

that's all, lapsing into andre leon talleyness here, "A chiffon dress WORKED like a Japanese lantern, the essence the SCIENCE of couture!"

i bought this bed online 2 weeks ago. it squeaks at the slightest movement, sounding like a bad porno movie. nothing defective with my particular bed, it's just the design i think. metal frame on which the mattress sits rubs up against the wooden frame, making the noise. it sucks and i'm disappointed.
