Grown-up Canopies
LivingEtc.

As a little girl, we always wanted a canopy bed. The ability to close off our sleeping quarters felt at once magical and safe, and made us feel like a princess! As an adult, we're not aiming for the princess look in our room anymore, but love the idea of a grown-up canopy for a bit of magic...

Here are some of our favorites from Living Etc., our favorite source for inspirational images.

1 This great Portica four poster canopy in stainless steel adds a contemporary look to a vintage infused bedroom.

2 For a bit more princess, without being overwhelming, this pink four poster canopy adds a bit of playfulness.

3 Coupled with large decor and rich color, this four poster canopy doesn't outweigh the other visual highlights of the room.

4 If you have the space and means to do so, creating an architectural canopy is a gorgeous way to create visual drama and a bit of cozy appeal to a room.

5 This traditional four poster canopy looks even more dramatic up against a rustic exposed brick wall.

6 Teak is especially luxurious, especially in this slim-lined bed with just a bit of colorful crocheted canopy draped from the corner.

7 A classic Moroccan four poster silhouette becomes even more dramatic with an amber silken tapestry hung from one side of the canopy in front of a window.

8 The slightly askew lines of this beautiful canopy, coupled with small scattered rugs gives a traditional theme just enough modern interest.

9 This turned leg canopy gets a bit of modern polish by planing off the outside edges to a shear, flat facade. We love the combination of victorian charm and modern line.

10 Simple white curtains on a four poster canopy give a tropical, airy appeal that caters to the little kid inside of us while remaining sensible enough for an adult's room

As a child I had a beautiful canopy bed...and a chandelier in my room. I am the youngest of four and the only girl. I was spoiled.

If my fiance wouldn't protest, I'd STILL have a canopy and a chandelier in our bedroom. Love em both.

I have a metal canopy bed very similar to the first one (Portica)--I got it about 7 years at Storehouse, which I believe is now out of business. Anyway, I love it, and was so proud of my shopping skill because I snagged the floor model--BUT, in my move about 2 years ago, it got badly scratched--I neglected to wrap up the dismantled pieces, and my friends who (graciously) helped me move just sort of dragged it on the ground. People who visit me say it's not a big deal, and in fact they don't notice the scratches, but I would like to fix the scratches one day. Any ideas? My mom said I could take the bed apart and bring it to an auto body place to be, basically, repainted. I think it has to be spray painted. Just a heads up for people who want to buy metal furniture--at least wood can be sanded down and refinished!

Someone explain to me what's so special about canopy beds - why do you like them? Regal? Cozy (if they actually have a canopy)? Princess-like? The ones without a top on them seem like so much extra metal (or wood or whatever) for no purpose. The geometry of them can be sort of attractive, but I sense there's something really special-feeling about them to some people that I don't get at all.

"We?"

You may not be aiming for the princess look, but you certainly want to be royal.

#8 has the rather distressing appearance of looking like it's on the verge of falling apart. The angles! They're all wrong!

Damnit, someone already snagged #7. Not that I'm in need of a bed, but that one creates some serious lust. Gorgeous.

I've always liked the idea of a canopy bed for an open studio or loft space.

The one in the eves is inspired and i loke how it leaves the open space by windows for more storage and gneral living space. for me tho im not a fan of the standard square metal box designs.
