the idea of it is cute but in real life it looks and feels really cheap...

I actually have the Hemnes four poster bed in a queen, and it's surprisingly very sturdy. I sleep so well in it and have no complaints. I highly recommend it, particularly for the price.

I was really digging this piece until I went to Ikea to check it out in person. Maybe they didn't assemble it well, but it was really flimsy feeling. Also, the yellow paint (veneer?) wasn't even in some places. A good buy maybe, but a few drawbacks.

I have this bed, but bought it two years ago when Ikea made it in a different color. Mine has a dark brown stain. If you assemble it properly it is not wobbly, at least I haven't had any issues with mine, though I was concerned about that before buying it. The floor models at Ikea take a lot of abuse from crowds and are not always the best examples.

I have a mosquito net canopy draped over my bed, with the panels tied at the four posts. Without the canopy it does look a bit...I don't know, skinny and insubstantial. The posts are very thin and they're round, while the top pieces are square, which looks kind of odd. But with the canopy it's quite lovely and romantic without being prissy. I don't like the new yellow color though.

Anybody have the Ikea Aanes (Anes) bed? I've been interested in that bed for a while now... the frame seemed pretty sturdy in the showroom.

I have a Hemnes bed and an IKEA mattress in my beach house, which I rent. I love it. It looks great, was very nicely priced and has held up really well. That's important in a rental where you can't depend on renters treating your home like their's.

I have the malm, the slats that go under the mattress "creak" after only a year. Other than that it all seems to be very solid, and I get a lot of complements on it.

i have the anes bed and i love it. it has the best silhouette and i love the bent plywood and white melamine. i have some issues with the center beam which holds the slats - it seems to sag. but i wonder if this is because i have a VERY heavy tempurpedic mattress.

We've bought the Kongsvik bed, which to me is identical to the Hemnes but in black-brown stain. I was sceptical but my other half insisted (plus it was on sale) so we bought it. Shockingly sturdy, at least for now - I should qualify I'm a chunky monkey kinda build, and it's as stable as can be, so you thinner mortals can rest easy (pun intended)

i have never slept in it but my boss bought it after we used it in a photo shoot and it is Ikea and is a little wobbly. it is not an heirloom piece.

I'm so glad to see some great advice on the Hemnes bed. I've been eyeing it for my daughter's bedroom. Does anyone know if the finish would accept some paint? I am a 4 hour drive from the nearest Ikea store so I can't reasonably check it out myself.

Never judge IKEA pieces by the floor samples - they're always shoddy. I own this four-poster bed and absolutely love it. It was easy to assemble and we think its completely solid and sturdy. I love the washy yellow (which is intended to be uneven and show the wood grain beneath) but with a little sanding, I'm sure it would accept paint beautifully.

Agree about Ikea floor samples--it is bad merchandising not necessarily indicative of the quality (not thta that can't be an issue). Friends bought an Ikea crib that I was horrified by in the store, but when put together well it was fine.

This bed is so cute but the color wouldn't work for me--Can Hemnes be painted? (It is veneer or stain or what?)

I have this bed in queen and I love it. I don't think it's wobbly at all, but my boyfriend says it is, just a little. It just survived a move (including a tumble out of the back of the truck onto the street) and has held up beautifully.

It isn't a veneer, and I do like the color, though I know some people don't like the yellow stain.

I have been loving this bed when I see it in the catalog. I think it would be perfect for a girl's room! I'm a big fan of yellow though. :) Good to hear that it is holding up well. I'll keep it on my future wish list.

I have a similar bed from Ikea although it's a bit more substantial (thicker posts) and it's a natural light wood. it cost $500 when I bought it in 1999 and I've taken it apart and re-assembled it twice since then and it's in great shape. Totally worth the money. I just wish I had a bigger bedroom - it kind of dwarfs the room.

NAY! you'll have to buy an ikea mattress too unless you want unsightly gaps around your mattress, mines propped in place by slatts from my old bed :(
