It would probably be too overwhelming, but it will also depend on how much space you have around the bed and how high your ceilings are.

I also live in a small space and I've found that the best way to use it efficiently is by working up rather than around. If the bed would take up a whole wall, what other furniture options do you have room for? The massive bed would overwhelm other large pieces in a small space, and it looks like it provides as much extra storage as a bed with storage underneath and a big dresser. I'll post a link if i find something that utilizes more upward space... do you have any photos of the room? Thanks!

It's stunning and it would certainly give you a lot of storage. One question to ask yourself - do you need that much standard drawer space? I personally like having an armoire for blankets, towels, etc. that don't fit in drawers (my place doesn't have a linen closet). Also, unless you're tall, the top drawers would be a challenge for daily access.

It would be less imposing in a lighter wood. But, if dark woods are your style, go for it. There are lots of house tours on AT where people have painted one accent wall in a dark brown. Maybe those could help you relate having a dark "wall" in your own space.

I like it alot - especially all the drawers and the pull-outs for nightstands. Love the dark color too - are there reading lamps built-in?

it might look massive. i've seen some giant bedroom behemoths at the store and they look big even in the showroom

I think it would make the room feel smaller b/c it's so dark and large that it would be overhwelming. Also b/c it's all one unit it gives you less flexibility. I say go for separate pieces. I've found that I have great storage under our bed with regular bed bath and beyond storage under a room and board platform bed. I have one of those storage beds for my daughter and she only has a little more storage.

Boy. I just tried to lay out this piece in my small bedroom, and it pretty much fills the space!
Why don't you lay it out, using blue painter's tape, on the floor and the walls (for height)? I've done that, and it gives you a much better sense of exactly how much room you'll have left. Plus...I'd measure the amount of clothing I had and make sure this will accommodate what you've got and what you need it to store.

I love it. It sure seems to have a lot of storage space and I like big bedroom furniture.

If it takes up most of the room....so what? Why should a bedroom be spacious? As long as you have a big enough bed and enough clothing storage, what more do you need in a bedroom?

But that's just me. I think bedrooms should be cozy and uncluttered.

Hate it. Reminds me of big old laminant waterbed furniture matching sets. Like there's 2 matching dressers. For this to work that wood would need to be sooo beautiful and the picture makes me think it's not that high quality of a piece. Don't do it.

If there's any chance of being able to visit a showroom that has this piece in it, DO IT! Do it and then LAY DOWN!

In my experience, I've felt very strange when I'm trying to sleep and there is tall storage (even if it's just art, as seen above) above me. What if there's an earthquake? Eeeek!

I'm going to be totally honest with you -I hate that thing! I think it is imposing and would make your bedroom feel dark and caveish, particularly if it is small...

Great storage but very ugly and dated, would look at home in a Best Western!

I have a captains bed with 6 drawers beneath and am personally a big fan of that. All depends how big your room is, I love that it has reading lamp and bedside table built in.

Consider what you would put in each drawer also - do you need that much storage space in your bedroom? Will they end up as junk drawers? If so I would go against the headboard storage part. My bed is 3x winter storage drawers, 1 x PJs linen, 1x small handbags and 1x electronic odds and ends.

If there is a blonder wood option I would consider it. If you keep the rest of the room light and airy, it could work (note how its styled with a bright painting on the headboard and light linen to keep it from being too dark). But on the other hand it depends what style you want in your room. I could see this working with a nice brown leather club chair to create a old english country house kind of style.

I like lag's idea of mapping it out with blue painter's tape and I would _definitely_ do that before buying the thing. I also agree that I would be a little wary of so much dark wood, but my bedroom gets no direct sunlight so I'm biased. Last thing, it's bad feng shui (or whatever) to sleep with stuff under your bed. I know it sounds CRAZY and I live in an apartment without a lot of storage, but WITH a lot of stuff...and when I took things out from under the bed, I slept a lot better. Here's another storage suggestion...I love Expedit shelves from Ikea. I've found that combining the dark wood shelves with the green magazine file boxes lets me get great storage for a variety of things--blankets, sheets, towels, sweaters, etc, and they look neat (clean lines) as furniture. You can line a wall with them OR use them as a room divider (as I do...) But, I'm a poor grad student, so I tend to go with cheap and versatile...

I agree with Kittyj and James79... that thing is massive, already looks dated and is sort of an eye sore. yikes! It feels a bit like an "instant bedroom". Since you are asking for opinions....I would buy a bed, headboard, night tables/dressers instead. They can be moved around (should you ever move) rearranged, and last a long time if you buy quality pieces. I don't think comfort, color, style is the problem here...the entire look of it is just awful. It does reek of bad motel. Not trying to be mean, but I think you will regret this purchase.

Three big issues:

1. Do you own your space, with no plans to move to any radically different space? Massive pieces of furniture move badly, even when they disassemble to smaller units. It's finding the wall space in the new place that gets you. A series of three identical modern highboys lined up against a wall will be more flexible in the long run, if you really love drawers.

2. What else goes in the room? If you plan to have ONLY this unit and maybe a bench at the end of the bed, plus dramatic art on the remaining walls, it could work. Once you start adding other case goods, you have a 1970s hotel room.

3. Do you LOVE this unit? It's large and inflexible, so it needs to be drool-on-the-floor perfect, not a compromise.

if it's big enough relative to the width of your bedroom so that it looks like a built-in, it'll be OK. If it's just perched in the middle of a wall with the side storage units sticking out, it would look pretty overwhelming

IKEA has a unit that goes with their MALM bed that looks like a regular headboard but has pull outs on the sides for books. Wouldn't be ideal for much else, but may work for your needs.

Also, I've seen IKEA hacks where they use this lack unit http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/00045560 as a bed platform. You can put one on each side of your bed (if not against a wall) or make a platform and use this (or the double one) as a front. Simple velcro and fabric (or cup hook hooks) to attach fabric, or pretty (backed for stability) wall paper to close off the storage.

what great advice everyone gave. definately helped me to make a decison. i appreciate it very much. i tape out the area as suggested and decided not to buy this unit. way too massive. instead i found two 1950's brown & saltman nightstands. i'm on my way. i hope to participate in the spring cure.

I saw this bed online at Macys. I went to the store to go look at it in person and I wasn't all impressed. The wood looks cheap and the shelves on the side are not as tall as it looks in the picture. The storage space underneath the bed is useful but overall I was not impressed with the other features.

youre probably better off with a gas lift bed... im not a fan of all the drawers, thats what chests are for!
