We spotted this True Romance Valois Canopy bed from Niermann Weeks while perusing Western Interiors' site. It caught our eye because it had never occurred to us that "Venetian silver leaf with antiqued mirrored panels" could be applied to a bed.

Lovely.
$19,330 at Niermann Weeks. (We wonder: Is it possible to DIY a similar piece without losing your mind?)
DIY would be better, because it wouldn't have the awful faux antique look. I just don't understand the desire to make new objects look tatty and old -- whether furniture or jeans. They never have the beautiful patina of a truly old object.

I like the look, but suspect working with those mirrors would make for a tedious and complicated DIY. I would love to have a small dresser or nightstand mirrored in this fashion, but have heard it can be very difficult both to get the mirrors cut to size and to correctly adhere them to the wood surface.

I think the antique mirrors make it. I think this a truly beautiful and unique piece of aspirational furniture that I could build a whole bedroom around.
This bed in "new mirror" would be a hideous Vegas-meets-Versailles, Liberace Antoiniette disaster.
The materials, labor, and what no doubt is a shipping nightmare make the price of this bed not so absurd for what it is, albeit not affordable for most. Not everything is.
