You may remember Tyler's Modern Credenza IKEA Hack, and the swap-out of his house numbers. Tyler's most recent project has been making over the front yard of his home in Washington state. Check out the dramatic difference...

Of course the "Before" shot looks like crap - it was taken after he dug up half the plants and took out the edging.
Having lived with edging blocks that protrude up from the level of the lawn, he's going to have a great time trimming the edges of the lawn against where the mower can't trim.

Here is a before shot, before I started to rip things out.
I'm sure with a big lawn like that he actually has an edger, bepsf, I'm sure he had to use it with the old bricks as well. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it but it is very different and I'm liking it!

I also wanted to mention that I bet his neighbors are probably craping themselves over this modern installation

Do you think they are really craping themselves? Doubt it, and they are probably not crapping themselves either. I think it looks great.

Scoutmandoo, we are in the south eastern side of the state. Tri-Cities.
labchick, Yes we were a little worried about what our neighbors were going to say. Most of our neighborhood is pretty traditional as far as the landscaping goes. On a positive note we have already received complements on the project.

I thought the scenery looked familiar!! My folks live close to you. Mom and I like to drive through the neighborhood on the plateau and ogle the cool custom houses there.
I love modern lines but somehow I'm not feeling this? I bet it looks better in person. Anyway, what's important is that YOU love it.

good concept; however, constraining a organic garden to a geometric pattern defeats the purpose of showcasing mother natures attributes - that is why Japanese gardens do not have geometric patterns outlining their movements.

chris_94131,
I do love my lawn. I have a pretty big yard, that is only the right side front. The lawn in the picture is the only grass I have in my whole yard. I think I will hang on to it.

I like how the original landscaping softened the lines formed by the concrete surrounding the yard on all sides.
BUT I don't think it accentuated the "modern-ness" of the house. Which, I assume, was the designer's intention?
I'd like to see after shots taken from the street. I think that this installation would be better appreciated if viewed in context. With the house behind it.
