The University of California Botanical Garden in Berkeley holds a Sick Plant Clinic on the first Saturday of every month.

Take them a sample of your ailing plant and UC plant pathologist Dr. Robert Raabe, UC entomologist Dr. Nick Mills, and their team of experts will diagnose its malady.

The event's from 9 am to noon, it's free, and no reservations are necessary.

Now maybe the plants at the garden center will stop trying to hide when they see you coming.
